The precursor to BP, the "Anglo-Persian Oil Company," opened an office in Istanbul in 1912 and registered the Lion & Sun and Palm Tree brands. Continuing its activities in the Turkish market until 1949 under the name "Steaua Romana," BP increased and expanded its investments in our country during this period. In 1957, under the changed name of BP Petrolleri Anonim Şirketi, it continued its endeavors that would leave a mark in Turkey. In its early years of operation in the fuel and lubricant sectors, it increased its sales volume from 40,000 tons to 200,000 tons in the 1960s.
